Cobalt version 5.0 has been released, the latest version of Cobalt Solutions, LLC popular unstructured flow solver.
Cobalt Solutions LLC is proud to announce the release of Cobalt version 5.0.
The changes from Cobalt version 4.0 to version 5.0 are described below.
Modified Features
The following features were modified from Cobalt version 4.0 to version 5.0.
CFL or Time-Step Ramp
The option of using a time-step ramp in a simulation is now available Cobalt
version 5.0. Previous versions based any ramping on CFL. The user can now
control the ramp with an initial and final time-step.
DDES-SST
The DES-SST turbulence model has been modified to Delayed-Detached Eddy
Simulation (DDES) SST. All eddy simulations use Delayed-Detached Eddy models in
Cobalt version 5.0.
Actuator Disk
The Actuator Disk boundary condition has been modified to be more consistent
with the definition of an actuator disk. Cobalt version 5.0 now enforces a pressure
jump across the rotor patches.
Overset Grid Assembly
The overset grid assembly process has been modified to achieve a minimum
overlap in the fringe area. This attempts to move the hole-cut way from a solid
surface.
Removed Features
Several unused or little used features were removed in Cobalt version 5.0. Tap
Extracts have been removed completely. A rewrite of this feature will return in a
later version. The following Internal Boundary Condition Types have been
removed: Vortex Generator, Screen and Vortex Breakdown Locator.
Changes to Job File
There were two changes to input in the Cobalt job file from version 4.0 to version 5.0.
The first change is the input for the first dependent variable of one-equation turbulence
models has become dimensional. The user must input Nu~ in version 5.0 instead of
Nu~/Nu for version 4.0.
The second change is the meaning of the input for the CFL or Time-Step ramp.
Changes to Boundary Condition File
There was one change to input in the Cobalt bc file from version 4.0 to version 5.0. The
input for the first dependent variable of one equation-turbulence models has become
dimensional. The user must input Nu~ in version 5.0 instead of Nu~/Nu for version 4.0.
